Public defence of my thesis

Public defence of my thesis

From this day, March 5th, 2021, I am officially called a doctor!

Defending a PhD thesis at EPFL consists of two steps: the oral exam (a.k.a. the private defence) and the public defence. The oral exam is the real defence where an international committee grills the candidate for hours (I passed this on Sep 17th, 2020) and the public defence, following a few months later, carries rather a ceremonial role. Here I presented my thesis in a more approachable and general way to my colleagues, friends, and family.

As much as I wanted to share this happy moment with my close ones on the campus of EPFL, the COVID-19 pandemic required me to organise the event virtually. I invited a few friends to my appartement (complying with the Swiss lockdown regulations of max 5 people indoors) while broadcasting my talk live to everyone else on Zoom.
